As we are about 3 weeks into Mobb's new album, Blood Money, being out and sales already tanking, one has to wonder, was it worth it? I mean, Mobb Deep has a established track record and the G-Unit influence seem to deter die hard Mobb fans. The album itself is good, for a Havoc solo! Prodigy is a shell of his former self and Hav & 50 Cent end up carrying the LP. It almost sounded like 50 was a member of the group. Beats were never a problem, as this album has some of the best beats of the year for any album.
But one has to think, with no 2nd single in sight and sales barely near 200,000, did 50 and Mobb Deep sell themselves short? For Mobb Deep, they already have taken it on the chin with the with the 2Pac and Jay Z disses, but to sign with 50, who dissed you on the Massacre, it does not make sense. And 50, who seems to be in a rush to sign vets to his label, seemed to sign Mobb out of pity. I mean, if 50 REALLY was a fan of Mobb, why diss them? This was a obvious signing by 50 for some groups with street cred. Not to say that Mobb Deep can't bounce back, but 2 of their singles were on The Massacre and Get Rich Or Die Trying Soundtrack (Have A Party & Outta Control Remix), Creep is a banga, and the next single NEEDS to have 50 to do anymore damage on the charts. M.O.P. is another group 50 has signed and like Mobb they have a strong fanbase. If their fate is not to be the same as Mobb's, M.O.P. will have to step it up and not make the boss have to carry the weight.
